Women and the sea. Female work in Galicia’s maritime industries. XIX and XX centuries

On March 20, the exhibition ‘As mulleres e o mar. O traballo feminino nas industrias marítimas de Galicia. Séculos XIX e XX’ was presented in the Claustro Alto do Colexio de Fonseca. This exhibition is curated by Luisa Muñoz Abeledo, CISPAC researcher and director of the Juana de Vega Chair.

At the opening of this exhibition, the curator highlighted the importance of making visible the historical figure of working-class women, focusing this exhibition on women workers in the fish industry. Accompanying her at the event were José Manuel Andrade, manager of the Juana de Vega Foundation. He pointed out the value of this exhibition to demonstrate the leading role of Galician women in the economic and social progress of Galician rural society.

The exhibition will be available at the Pazo de Fonseca until April 9, with free visiting hours between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and between 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. You can consult more information in the note published by the University of Santiago de Compostela .
