Mikel Díaz Rodríguez is Interim Lecturer of Prehistory at the Faculty of History of the University of Vigo. Previously, he was a pos-doctoral hired researcher 'Margarita Sala'at the Faculty of Geography and History of the University of Santiago. He also did a two years stay abroad at the University of Aarhus (Denmark). He obtained his PhD at the USC (2020). He is part of the research group Grupo de Estudos de Arqueoloxía, Antigüidade & Territorio (GEAAT) of the University of Vigo.
His lines of research focus on the application of statistics and spatial analysis to the study of Paleolithic and Prehistoric societies in general. He is currently focused on the study of the extinction of Neanderthals, through the analysis of spatio-temporal trends of sites inhabited by the last Neanderthals and the first Anatomically Modern Humans (HAM) in SW Europe during MIS 3.
Currently, he is taking part of the research project “Dinámicas poblacionales y tecnológicas durante el Pleistoceno final-Holoceno de las Sierras Orientales del Noroeste Ibérico” of the USC, in the project CLIOARCH funded by the ERC (nº 817564) & also the NeanderEDGE project, funded by IRFD (nº 9062-00027B).
