José Antonio Aldrey Vázquez is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography at the University of Santiago de Compostela. His main line of work is related to demographic aspects applied to territorial planning and management (immigration, aging, depopulation and territorial repercussions of these phenomena). Other relevant lines of research in his academic career are, on the one hand, territorial planning for local development (international cooperation); and, on the other, the development of methodologies and their application in various Galician municipalities, for the request of Integral Rehabilitation Areas, a line that can be framed within the scope of urban planning, demography and social geography. Finally, as a result of collaboration with other disciplines of knowledge, he has recently opened a new line of research in agroforestry, related to rural geography.
He was Director of the Department of Geography at USC (2010-2014) and member of its Governing Council (2011-2015). Since 2017 he has been the Director of the Geography Working Group for the PAU in Galicia (CIUG). And, since April 2024, he is member of the Comisión de Acreditación Institucional de Centros Universitarios e Certificación de Sistemas Internos de Garantía de Calidade dos centros universitarios da ANECA. He has received the Leonardo teaching award from USC on eight occasions.
