CISPAC researchers Jesús Simal and Stefania Barca are included in the 2025 edition of the Top 2% Scientists ranking, an international classification that identifies the most cited researchers worldwide based on standardised bibliometric indicators of scientific impact.

In the field of history, Stefania Barca ranks among the most cited researchers internationally, placing 37th in her field according to this classification, highlighting the global impact of her contributions to environmental history and political ecology.

This recognition is linked to the recent impact of her research and reports on environmental history, climate justice and socio-ecological transitions, areas in which she has developed intense academic and knowledge-transfer activity in recent years within CISPAC and international research networks. Examples include the report “Just Transition and Care: An International Inquiry”, released by the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD), and her book Workers of the Earth: Labour, Ecology and Reproduction in the Age of Climate Change.

Jesús Simal, professor at the Universidade de Vigo and CISPAC researcher, is recognised in the field of food sciences, subfield nutrition and dietetics, where he ranks among the most cited researchers worldwide —46th position— and among the leading scholars at the national level.

This recognition is associated with the sustained impact of his research on food safety, nutritional composition and food technology, as well as with his recent scientific output and participation in international projects and networks focused on quality, control and innovation in the food sector.

The Top 2% Scientists ranking, developed by Stanford in collaboration with Elsevier, analyses scientific impact through a composite indicator integrating citations, h-index and authorship position, classifying researchers across 22 fields and 174 scientific subfields.
