01/10/2025

The feature film San Simón (2025), directed by Miguel Ángel Delgado, explores the history of the Francoist concentration camp on the island of San Simón. The film premiered at the San Sebastián International Film Festival , in the Made in Spain section, where it was the only Galician-language film in this edition.

The work reconstructs how the former lazaretto was turned into a prison from October 1936 onwards, a place where thousands of people were victims of Francoist repression. The narrative, based on real events and historical research, incorporates documentary material and clandestine photographs related to the prisoners and their families, focusing on memory and the unhealed wounds of Francoism in Galicia.

HISTAGRA group and CISPAC participated in the film, providing support and specialized knowledge that strengthen the historical account of democratic memory.

The film will be screened at the Ourense Film Festival (OUFF) on Thursday, October 2 at 5:00 p.m. at the Teatro Principal, within Panorama Galicia, and its theatrical release is scheduled for October 24.
