CISPAC launches the documentary “Carewell” on International Migrants’ Day

18/12/2024

On the occasion of International Migrants’ Day, which is celebrated today, Wednesday 18 December, CISPAC presents the documentary “Carewell: Immigration and Transnational Care” . This audiovisual project illustrates the results of the research “Transnational Families in Europe”, which analyses the relationships between care, inequalities and intergenerational well-being in transnational families from the United Kingdom, Spain, France and Sweden.

The research was coordinated by the University of Reading, and led in Spain by Laura Oso, Deputy Director of CISPAC. The project used participatory action research methodology, known for its ability to involve transnational families and community researchers of migrant origin in the co-creation of knowledge. The results provide insight into how family care practices are negotiated between different generations and their connection to countries of origin.

One of the highlights of this research is the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on transnational families, transforming caregiving responsibilities and mobility strategies. This project analyzes how these situations have affected the health, economy, and social and emotional relationships of families.

This project is part of CAREWELL – Care, inequality and well-being in transnational families in Europe: a comparative intergenerational study in Spain, France, Sweden and the United Kingdom, MYBL JPI 2020- PCI2021-121924; funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and the European Union “NextGenerationEU”/PRTR.

You can now watch the full documentary on the YouTube channel of the ESOMI group at the University of A Coruña, and soon on the CISPAC channel.
